At BUILDSPACE, we firmly believe that collaboration and stakeholder engagement are essential drivers of innovation. With this vision in mind, on July 14th 2023, the first BUILDSPACE Co-Creation Session was conducted, with the goal of fostering meaningful dialogue, addressing challenges, and shaping the future services of the project.
The session served as a platform for diverse stakeholders to come together and co-create innovative solutions in the realm of energy efficiency and climate resilience. With around 76 representatives from various fields and backgrounds, the session offered a unique opportunity to break traditional boundaries and foster interdisciplinary collaboration.
Harnessing Stakeholder Engagement for Energy Efficiency and Climate Resilience
The session was led by Carla Rodriguez (CARTIF) who warmly welcomed the participants. During the first part, the BUILDSPACE project: scope and services were presented by Stamatia Rizou (SingularLogic), the project leader. During the second session, CARTIF and SingularLogic moderate and set a common understanding of key terms and concepts.
Engaging in open and constructive discussions, participants shared their experiences, and perspectives, and identified key obstacles. By understanding these challenges, we gained invaluable insights that will inform the development of BUILDSPACE's services and solutions.
In the second part of the session, our participants were divided into four break-out rooms to discuss in more detail the different services and solutions that the project can offer to different stakeholders. Priority was given to the current challenges faced by them. The break-out rooms included:
- Service 1 and 2: Digital Twin of Buildings: Generation and enrichment, led by Luis Javier Sanchez of Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).
- Service 3: Building stock energy demand calculation and visualization, led by Carla Rodríguez and Gema Hernández of CARTIF.
- Service 4: Identification and visualization of areas with high urban heat intensity and distribution, led by Lien Bakelants of Nazka and Patricia San Nicolás of Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).
- Service 5: Calculation of expected annual flood damage for buildings, led by Tijs Maes of Nazka.
One of the highlights of the session was witnessing the collaborative potential unfold. Participants actively engaged in exploring potential features and functionalities that BUILDSPACE can offer to meet their needs. Their enthusiasm and commitment to driving change were truly inspiring. The session's interactive nature, facilitated through innovative tools and platforms, encouraged open dialogue and fostered a sense of collective ownership.
The Co-Creation Session was just the beginning of our collaborative journey. We invite all stakeholders to remain engaged, continue sharing their ideas and insights, and actively participate in shaping the future of energy efficiency and climate resilience. Your involvement is crucial as we work towards delivering innovative solutions that address real-world challenges, we are shaping a future that prioritizes energy efficiency and climate resilience. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their valuable contributions and encourage them to continue engaging in this journey of innovation.
Stay tuned for updates on further co-creation activities, as we embark on this collective mission of creating energy-efficient buildings and climate-resilient cities. Together, we can make a lasting impact and drive positive change.
