Data Week is a yearly event that brings together experts, innovators, and enthusiasts from various domains to explore the vast realm of data and its transformative potential. This dynamic gathering serves as a platform for exchanging knowledge, insights, and best practices, fostering meaningful presentations and discussions on data-related challenges, opportunities, and trends.

During Dataweek 2023, the special session "Leveraging Earth Observation Data to support energy efficiency and the European Green Deal" focused on earth observation and data technologies and applications and welcomed the BUILDSPACE project, alongside other 3 presentations: “Harmonizing EO and non-EO data-based on Linked Data principles”, “Paving the way for the Green Deal Data Space: the GREAT project”, and “Climate-resilient regions through systemic solutions and innovations: The Athens case study”

Dr. rer. nat. Stamatia Rizou, representative of the project leader SingularLogic, provided an insightful presentation titled "Enabling Innovative Space-driven Services for Energy Efficient Buildings and Climate Resilient Cities." The presentation highlighted the BUILDSPACE project, which aims to combine terrestrial data from buildings with aerial imaging from drones equipped with thermal cameras and location-annotated data from satellite services. This integration will lead to the development of innovative services for building and urban stakeholders, enabling informed decision-making toward energy-efficient buildings and climate-resilient cities. To validate and assess the BUILDSPACE services, the project will conduct testing in four European cities with distinct climate profiles. The digital twin services at the building level will undergo testing during the construction of a new building in Poland. Simultaneously, the city services, validating the link to the digital twin of buildings, will be tested in three cities across the EU - Piraeus, Riga, and Ljubljana.

The BUILDSPACE project commenced in February 2023 and is currently in its initial phase.

Following the presentations, an open discussion allowed presenters to delve into important topics, such as the role of Linked Data Principles in democratizing Earth Observation data, the significance of Earth Observation in the Green Deal data space, and the challenges of merging Earth Observation data with other data types, including citizen science and public administration data.

The BUILDSPACE project holds immense promise for advancing the integration of earth observation data with infrastructure at the edge, bolstering energy efficiency, and contributing to the European Green Deal's goals. With ongoing research and development, the project aims to pave the way for data-driven solutions that will shape sustainable and climate-resilient cities in the future.
