On October 15th, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), a project partner, presented BUILDSPACE at the Third Destination Earth User eXchange, in Darmstadt, Germany.
The event brought together current and potential users of Destination Earth (DestinE) and DestinE systems developers. DestinE is a flagship initiative of the European Commission to develop a highly-accurate digital model of the Earth to model, monitor and simulate natural phenomena, hazards and how they interact with human activities.
BUILDSPACE at EU level: Exploiting and integrating the DestinE initiative
BUILDSPACE works closely with major EU initiatives in the fields of space and buildings. For this reason, BUILDSPACE seeks to align with EGNSS specifications and Copernicus services and to synchronise with the advances of DestinE, targeting Digital Twin technologies and data federation mechanisms. This will keep the project up-to-date with updates and news on climate products offered by Copernicus that can be exploited in the context of BUILDSPACE services.
ECMWF will be responsible for delivering the first digital twins, namely DestinE Digital Twin Extremes and Digital Twin Climate, and will investigate the potential exploitation of the project results in the context of the DestinE initiative.
BUILDSPACE will contribute to the extension of the Copernicus services and the European Commission DestinE programme and will help overcome any potential technical bottlenecks while sharing any updates with the community.
During the event, Claudio Pisa, representing BUILDSPACE, not only emphasized the importance of BUILDSPACE in supporting buildings’ energy efficiency and cities’ resilience and sustainability, but also facilitated meaningful interactions. The conference participants suggested indeed to start a collaboration with the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors Adapt.
