The project exploitation strategy will comprise of a bouquet of exploitation activities:
- The identification of the innovative exploitable assets, whether these are technological or added value services which the project will deliver through its results to its target users;
- The conduction of a thorough market analysis (which will comprise of an initial and a final analysis) which will aim at the identification of the market towards which BUILDSPACE is targeted;
- The documentation of an analytical IPR management strategy based on the principles outlined in the project Consortium Agreement which will guide joint and individual exploitation capabilities of the project partners;
- The analytical definition of all possible commercial and non-commercial exploitation models, which have been preliminary identified from the proposal stage;
- The analytical definition and evaluation of the sustainability and viability of possible business models and alternative solutions that may be followed for the provision of the project solution and services to the identified stakeholders, including licensing schemes, pricing, etc.;
- The validation of the aforementioned exploitation activities through the relevant, market driven BUILDSPACE pilots.
An initial business plan of the BUILDSPACE exploitable results is presented in the Annex. The BUILDSPACE components that are subject to commercial exploitation refer to the BUILDSPACE services (KER3-KER7). It has been agreed that while the BUILDSPACE core platform (KER2) is an enabler towards the services exploitation, it will not be considered as a separate commercial offering and the business plan will focus on the services.
For the joint exploitation of the project’s results, BUILDSPACE will use the already established Buildings Big Data Analytics Alliance (BDA) of the MATRYCS project (NTUA and CARTIF). The alliance will be further upgraded during the BUILDSPACE lifetime, offering additional services to its community: Access to Digital Building Twins, analytics, services, training, consulting and technical support services. These services will be offered in the form of complementary assets to the services listed above.
Individual partners exploitation plans: BUILDSPACE’s outcomes will be also capitalised by internal exploitation the expertise and know-how each partner will gain on the data exploitation for the purposes of the building stock. Detailed exploitation plans by each individual partner, in-line with each partner’s business and research strategy, will be developed. In most cases, these plans concern the improvement of existing products and services of the partners.
- SLG (as an industrial partner) is mainly interested in the commercial exploitation model, providing the project results to the end users. SLG is also interested in the technological exploitation model, developing and delivering products and/or services built on top of the project open-source results. SPH will assist SLG in developing the exploitation models for BUILDSPACE results leveraging on the expanded commercial activities of the Space Hellas Group.
- ECMWF scientists are at the forefront of efforts to maximise the exploitation and impact of BUILDSPACE data / services for weather forecasting and other environmental applications. Its long-standing partnerships with space agencies, especially EUMETSAT and ESA, will also contribute to the successful exploitation of BUILDSPACE.
- MOS, MoP, IMZI and RPR will widely use the project’s results in order to improve their business performances and open new business opportunities.
- ALDA can capitalise on the project results and on the demonstrator outcomes and best practices identified so as to design European, national or regional policies. ALDA will foster the replication of the use of BUILDSPACE services to promote the design policies towards a data-driven vision for the European building stock.
- NTUA, UPM and UOC are mainly interested in the research exploitation model, aspiring re-utilisation of the research know-how acquired in future research activities. From a commercial exploitation model, they are interested in founding spin-offs and start-ups to commercially exploit the developed research results.
- NAZKA, MOBICS (as SMEs) and CARTIF (as technology center) are interested at the re-utilisation of the technological know-how acquired for the development and transfer into innovative products and the provision of advanced services built on top of them. The European context of the project might also lead to new business opportunities.
Exploitation of the use cases and pilots of the project that will be used to validate the project’s digital enablers for autonomy: The large-scale pilot applications will provide early showcases of the project’s functionalities, and they will be gradually advanced against maturity and market readiness towards a viable route to market. The pilot solutions of the project (including open calls solutions) will be made available through the project’s marketplace.
Go–to-Market Strategy: The commercialisation of the BUILDSPACE related products and services through the BDA will be realised in three phases, including post-project exploitation:
- A pilot and (business) validation phase, which will be carried out as part of the project’s work plan (M31- M36). It will validate the initial services to be offered by the Alliance from both a technical and a business perspective, while at the same time establishing a detailed business plan. At this phase 100+ additional participants (including both consortium members, participants to the background projects of the partners) will be registered to the project’s ecosystem.
- A market launch phase (M36-M60), which will start at the end of the project, implementing the established business plan and attracting the first customers (i.e. data service/solution providers outside the consortium). Key to this phase will be the proper exploitation of the combined BUILDSPACE results within the partners’ business networks. At the end of this phase, there will be 250+ additional participants to the project’s ecosystem.
- A global expansion phase (beyond M60-…), where BUILDSPACE will become the world’s top ecosystem for advanced data-driven monitoring of building stock energy performance. As part of this phase, the emphasis will be in global networking and attraction of 1,500+ participants.
