BUILDSPACE brings together advanced digital tools and data-driven methods to assist decision-makers in predicting climate risks and enhancing sustainability at both the building and city scale.
BUILDSPACE provides five decision-support services integrated into a central platform. These services are being tested in four pilot locations across Europe — Poland, Latvia, Greece, and Slovenia — each focusing on a specific urban challenge. Among them, Pilot 3, based in Piraeus, Greece is centred on the theme of urban heat resilience, delivered through Service 4 (SE4). This service analyses urban heat distribution and intensity with high-resolution data and combines socioeconomic and demographic data to assess urban heat risk and social vulnerability.
Training & Live Demonstration Event
To showcase the real-world impact and value of the work under Service 4, the project is organising an hybrid event that offers stakeholders a unique opportunity to understand how the service works and to experience it firsthand.
On June 3rd 2025, BUILDSPACE will host an engaging hybrid training session and live demonstration event focusing on Service 4. Urban Heat Analysis and Resilience, showcasing the work done in Pilot 3. Piraeus, Greece. The event is expected to bring together urban planners, researchers, local authorities, and sustainability professionals from across Europe.
The session will aim to provide participants with practical knowledge on tackling urban heat-related challenges and will showcase how BUILDSPACE tools are being tested in Pilot 3. Piraeus, Greece.

During this event, representatives from the Municipality of Piraeus will present their local context, emphasizing the city’s exposure to extreme heat events and the importance of smart tools in enhancing urban resilience. This will be followed by a keynote presentation from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), titled “BUILDSPACE – Pioneering Smart Solutions for Energy Efficiency and Urban Resilience”, which will introduce the technological backbone of BUILDSPACE and its vision for more climate-adaptive cities.
The core part of the event will include a comprehensive overview of key topics such as:
Urban heat and related vulnerabilities,
- Mapping and assessment techniques for risk,
Data-driven decision-making for sustainable urban planning.
A live demonstration of Service 4 (SE4) will allow attendees to see how in depth:
Detailed urban heat risk maps (vulnerability map, exposure map, and hazard map) using real environmental and demographic data,
Estimation of energy consumption for heating and cooling under current and future climate scenarios,
Visual and downloadable insights to assist local authorities in designing effective adaptation measures.
Participants will also learn how SE4 is currently being piloted in Piraeus and how it supports strategic actions including urban greening, cooling infrastructure, and energy-efficient retrofitting. During the event, stakeholders will have the chance to try out the service themselves, with guidance from the developer, UPM. This hands-on experience will help participants see how the service works, what kind of results it produces, and how it can support more resilient cities. Attendees are advised to bring their laptop to have the chance to explore and test the service in real time.
The session will conclude with a discussion and Q&A, offering participants the opportunity to engage directly with project partners and explore how similar strategies can be replicated in their local contexts.
This webinar will mark a key moment in the BUILDSPACE project’s implementation phase and will highlight the power of innovation and collaboration in building more resilient and sustainable cities.
