On Tuesday 16th of January, a meeting was held between the representatives of Riga Planning Region and Riga City Development Department, in which the BUILDSPACE project was introduced by Sanita Paegle, Project Manager at Riga Planning Region.

Riga Planning Region is currently implementing climate resilience projects that will promote energy efficiency in the city and the region, the acquisition and exchange of data of various types and applications, as well as the most active use of smart technologies.

The meeting was specifically focused on green projects and energy efficiency initiatives that utilize satellite data and incorporate green infrastructure. The presentations particularly highlighted:

  • The methods employed in the project and the anticipated data collection.
  • Project deliverables, including documents, pilot sites, planning tools, and others.
  • The project timeline outlining key milestones.
  • Opportunities for collaboration among different projects and the potential utilization of shared data.

The presentation of the BUILDSPACE project highlighted its aim to develop innovative applications to support buildings' energy efficiency and cities' resilience and sustainability, thus, serving as a solution for predicting the energy performance of buildings in Riga, utilizing drone and satellite data.

The BUILDSPACE project will carry out four pilots:

  1. Testing of services at building scale in Warsaw, Poland
  2. Energy demand forecast service at city scale in Riga, Latvia.
  3. Urban heat analysis service at city scale and the Digital Twins generation in Piraeus, Greece
  4. Urban flood analysis service at city scale in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Building energy demand forecast service at a city scale and their link to Digital Twins of an existing building are two out of the five BUILDSPACE innovative platform services which will be tested in Riga. These services are vital for the resilience of buildings and cities.

With its development, BUILDSPACE promises  to revolutionize our approach to urban planning and sustainable development with technological tools.

The insights shared during this inspiring meeting serve as a motivation for us to persist in our collective efforts toward a green building revolution and more sustainable future!
